(Stillwater, OK) — Members of the Stillwater Police Department recently demonstrated the commitment officers feel toward one another by helping a retired officer facing health challenges.

Former School Resource Officer Guy Palladino and his wife were without running water at their home southwest of Stillwater since their well house was destroyed by a recent storm. A team of off-duty officers, with a volunteer from the rural water district providing guidance, arrived on their property June 29 and braved 100 degree heat to get the household connected to rural water service.

“We had a great turnout and everyone worked together as one team on one mission,” Police Chief Jeff Watts said.

The crew of about 15 accomplished a lot in just over four hours, trenching and laying more than 630 feet of water line and installing an outdoor faucet for the family’s horses, Watts said. They then filled in the trenches and holes and cleaned up the work site.

The volunteers also took care of other jobs that needed to be done, picking up debris from the well house, clearing several trees and shrubs, mowing more than two acres and edging around the yard, repairing fencing for the horses and relocating a round bale feeder.

Watts said the officers did an amazing job and had a great time working together for a great cause as they helped one of their own.

“Everyone showed up for the right reason,” Det. Newly McSpadden said.
