Oklahoma State University announced on May 7 that it has scheduled a home-and-home football series with Michigan State University. The agreement will see the Spartans visit Stillwater on September 16, 2028, while the Cowboys will travel to East Lansing on September 15, 2029.
The new series comes after a previously planned two-game set against Alabama was canceled. The change was prompted by the Southeastern Conference’s decision to move to a nine-game league schedule, which led both Oklahoma State and Alabama to seek home games in the same season.
According to the announcement, Michigan State’s upcoming trip will mark the first time a “traditional” Big Ten opponent visits Stillwater. Previous visitors from the Big Ten included Nebraska, UCLA, and Washington during their tenures in other conferences. Oregon, another recent addition to the Big Ten from the Pac-12, is also scheduled to play at Oklahoma State on September 12.
Oklahoma State and Michigan State have not faced each other before in football. However, Oklahoma State has played eleven games in Michigan over its history—only two of which occurred since 1955: one against Michigan in 1992 and another versus Central Michigan in 2015.
The new matchup with Michigan State adds to Oklahoma State’s upcoming slate of Power Four opponents for future seasons. Other scheduled series include Arkansas (in 2027, 2032, and 2033), Oregon (in 2026), and Nebraska (in 2034 and 2035).
