Oklahoma State University’s baseball team lost a close game to Oral Roberts University, 10-9, at O’Brate Stadium on April 7. The defeat ended the Cowboys’ four-game winning streak and marked only their third home loss of the season. OSU’s record now stands at 21-12, while ORU improved to 18-12.
The game saw Oklahoma State mount a late rally that ultimately fell short in the ninth inning. The Cowboys used six pitchers throughout the contest. TP Wentworth started for OSU and recorded a career-high six strikeouts over four innings, allowing just one earned run. Noah Wech took the loss after giving up two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Colin Brueggemann continued his strong performance at bat, going three-for-five with a home run—his sixth in five games. Alex Conover also had two hits for OSU. Kollin Ritchie hit his nineteenth home run of the season during the first inning and entered the game ranked third nationally in homers.
The lead changed hands several times during the game. ORU opened with a two-run homer by Makani Tanaka before OSU answered with solo shots from Ritchie and Brock Thompson. A series of rallies by both teams kept the score close into late innings.
In their final opportunity, Oklahoma State loaded the bases but was unable to bring home the tying run as Conover struck out to end the game.
OSU is scheduled to return to action Friday when they begin a weekend series against Kansas State.
