Oklahoma State defeated No. 16 Arizona State on May 10, securing a series-clinching 13-6 win at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The No. 25 Cowboys hit seven home runs, including four in the fourth inning.
The victory marks Oklahoma State’s eighth straight win in Big 12 play and their third consecutive conference series win. Both teams now have records of 33-17 overall and 16-10 in league play.
Colin Brueggemann and Alex Conover each hit two home runs for the Cowboys, while Brock Thompson, Aidan Meola, and Danny Wallace also homered. Brueggemann achieved his 200th career hit and entered Oklahoma State’s top ten for career home runs with his 49th round-tripper. Thompson extended his streak of reaching base safely to 43 games.
Stormy Rhodes made his fourth start of the season for Oklahoma State and earned the win, improving to a record of three wins and two losses. He pitched five innings, allowing three runs on ten hits while recording three double-play groundouts and two strikeouts.
Arizona State initially took the lead in the second inning with a solo home run by Dominic Smaldino but could not maintain it as Oklahoma State responded strongly throughout the game. The Cowboys took control during a six-run fourth inning featuring multiple home runs.
The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m.
