Oklahoma State University’s men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed across the west coast on April 18, with athletes participating in both California and Oregon events. The Cowgirls currently lead the seven-team field at the Oregon Team Invitational in Eugene, while the Cowboys are third among five teams after the first day of competition.
The performances are significant as they showcase several record-breaking achievements and personal bests for Oklahoma State athletes. These results highlight the strength of the program as it enters a key phase of the outdoor season.
In California, Annie Molenhouse broke Oklahoma State’s program record in the heptathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays with a score of 5,913 points. This result moves her to third place nationally this season. Denis Kipngetich also had a standout performance in Azusa, running a personal-best time of 13:13.43 in the men’s 5,000 meters—the second-fastest time in NCAA competition this year and second-best in school history.
At the Oregon Team Invitational, four Cowgirls finished among the top five collegiate competitors in women’s hammer throw, earning Oklahoma State an early lead. Rylee Jenkins’ throw of 63.56 meters was followed closely by Rachel Neaves’ mark of 62.93 meters; both contributed significantly to their team’s point total for that event.
Steven Schmidt won his second consecutive high jump event by clearing 2.10 meters, while Nate Collier placed second in discus throw—continuing his streak of top-three finishes this season by surpassing 55 meters again.
On track events, Isca Chelangat won gold in women’s 5,000 meter invite with a personal-best time that is now second fastest ever for Oklahoma State women and third fastest nationally this year entering weekend meets. Keegan Thomas took first place for men’s team over final lap surge; Ethan Stovall came third with another personal best.
Hafez Mahadi (men) and Jinah Mickens-Malik (women) swept open-400 meter titles with strong margins over their competitors. Action will continue Saturday at Eugene for day two of competition.
