The Oklahoma State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams concluded competition at the Oregon Team Invitational in Eugene on Apr. 19, with both squads placing fourth overall.
The event was notable for several standout performances from both Cowboys and Cowgirls athletes, with multiple competitors achieving personal bests and high program rankings. The meet offered an opportunity for team members to test themselves against strong opposition ahead of a busy upcoming schedule.
Brian Musau led the way for the Cowboys by finishing second in the men’s 1,500 Meter Invite with a new personal-best time of 3:39.27, which now ranks ninth in program history. Alex Riley and Oliver Patton also set personal records in that event. For the Cowgirls, Kaylie Politza ran a time of 4:12.66 in the women’s 1,500 Meters—third among collegiate runners—and Maureen Rutoh finished sixth among collegians with her own personal best.
Katie Chapman placed second in the women’s 100 Meter Hurdles at 13.90 seconds while also setting new marks in Javelin Throw and Shot Put earlier during Friday’s action. In the women’s 800 Meters, freshmen Elyse Wilmes (2:02.82) and Paige Stuart (2:05.39) took first and second place respectively; Wilmes’ time is now seventh-fastest all-time for Oklahoma State.
In field events, Michael Lunsford made his debut for Oklahoma State memorable by finishing third in men’s Shot Put Invite with an effort of 18.01 meters—fourth-best ever at OSU—and Burklie Burton claimed fourth place in women’s Discus Throw Invite with a mark good enough for seventh on OSU’s all-time list.
The meet concluded with strong relay performances as well as podium sweeps such as Madi Surber winning her first collegiate Steeplechase event (10:12.22), ranking fourth historically at OSU, followed closely by teammates Bella Nelson (second) and Payton Hinkle (third). The Cowboys’ men’s relay team secured victory in the final race—the men’s 4×400 Meter Relay Invite—with a time that ties them for seventh-fastest ever recorded by Oklahoma State.
Next up is a tri-meet weekend featuring appearances at the John McDonnell Invitational, Drake Relays, and OU O Ring Alumni Open.
