Oklahoma State junior wide receiver Wyatt Young shared his thoughts on joining the Cowboys football program and adjusting to life in Stillwater, according to an April 1 interview.

Young said he has felt welcomed by the Oklahoma State community. “I love it here. Everybody is so welcoming and just nice, helping me around, find my way around campus, different classes and everything. It’s just been great,” he said.

Addressing criticism regarding a large influx of new transfers and coaches this season, Young said the team trusts its coaching staff. “We trust our coaches, and we trust that we’ll be in the right positions at the right time, and they’ll make the right call for us. At the end of the day, it’s just execution, and I know all of us can execute at the highest level possible. We proved it last year; you could say it was against lesser competition, but we blew them out of the water every time we got the chance. I’m confident, and we’re all confident in our skills, and we know we can do it,” he said.

Young described a higher caliber of teammates compared to previous teams: “It’s definitely higher caliber players. Everywhere you go, the safety is faster… But the level of intensity of practice has also risen.” He added that knowing some teammates already has made him more comfortable with his transition: “It’s very familiar… Knowing some of the guys on the team already… Coach [Eric] Morris, Coach [Sean] Brophy—they’re great guys.”

Reflecting on his journey as a transfer to Oklahoma State University (OSU), Young explained how communication among recruits played a role: “We set up a group chat… Drew ended up committing first… We were all open and honest… [Eric] Morris and [Patrick] Cobbs and [Sean] Brophy—they’re our guys.” On personal development as a player since his freshman year he said: “The time I took in springtime to get my feet right… Communication like that and knowledge of sport really took my game to next level.”

Young acknowledged challenges in becoming a leader on a new team but expressed determination: “It’s a challenge just because there’s no team camaraderie yet… Show them I’m a dog… gain their respect first.” He concluded by sharing excitement about playing at this level: “I’ve always had drive to be at this level… now I know I can do it… So it’s exciting to be here in this position.”
