The Langston Lions opened their season in fine form behind a punishing ground attack that amassed 348 yards on the ground as the Lions defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State 48-13 at W.E. Anderson Stadium on Saturday night.
Markell Scott and Tahj Davidson both managed over 100 yards on the ground with two touchdowns as the Lions improved to 5-0 historically vs OPSU under head coach Quinton Morgan.
Davidson scored the game's first touchdown on an eight-yard run, capping an eight-play, 83-yard drive in the first quarter. Markell Scott tacked on two touchdowns on runs of 11 and 42 yards and Davidson racked up another scoring run to send Langston into halftime up 28-7. Larry Harrington finished the day 13-of-21 for 208 yards with one touchdown through the air and one on the ground. Ivory Wilright led all receivers with two catches for 60 yards.
Collectively, the Lions once again showed their prowess on defense, holding the OPSU offense to 225 yards on 61 players and forcing two interceptions.
Langston (1-0, 1-0 SAC) hits the road to face Texas College next Saturday at 2 p.m. in Tyler, Texas.
