Oklahoma State's winning streak climbed to four thanks to a brace from Olyvia Dowell Sunday afternoon as the Cowgirls beat 25th-ranked Brown, 2-0, at Neal Patterson Stadium in their final non-conference game of the regular season.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 7-1-1 on the year, including a 3-0-0 mark at home, while Brown dropped to 5-2-1.
Dowell's two goals against the Bears give her seven for the season and moved her into a tie for sixth place on the Cowgirls' all-time goals list with 30, while OSU freshman goalkeeper Jordan Nytes recorded her third shutout of the season.
The first half was action-packed, with both goalkeepers notching three saves. At the break, OSU trailed in shots, 12-4, and corner kicks, 9-1.
But with a strong wind at their backs, the Cowgirls started the second half with some early pressure and forced the Bears to give up two corner kicks within the first 10 minutes. In the 60th minute, Eryka McIntyre fired a shot that rattled off the crossbar, with Dowell having the follow-up shot saved to keep the game scoreless.
Dowell would break the scoring drought when she capitalized on a corner kick, collecting a ball headed by a BU defender and firing a shot into the back of the net from 15-yards out to put the Cowgirls on the board in the 72nd minute.
Less than eight minutes later, Dowell put the Bears away. On an outstanding cross from Blythe Beldner, Dowell dove at the top of the six-yard box and headed a ball that squirted through BU goalie Bella Schopp to put OSU up 2-0.
The Cowgirls open Big 12 Conference play this week with a road trip to Kansas. OSU will face the Jayhawks in Lawrence Thursday night before a Sunday contest at Kansas State.
