Northern Oklahoma College Mavs open 2022-23 season Wednesday

The NOC Mavs open the 2022-23 season Wednesday night against OK Wesleyan JV at 7 p.m.

NOC is led by new head coach Patrick Nee who replaced Brad Witherspoon.

The Mavs won the Region 2 regular season title in 2021-22 but no players return from that 21 win squad.

Nee has accepted the challenge of continuing the Maverick tradition with an entire new team.

"That was the biggest challenge getting hired late to bring in players that fit the culture we want," Nee said.  "I think we brought in a group of 17 players that will meet those expectations.  We are trying to mesh a lot of players together and that's going to take some time."

Nee is excited for the new season.

"We've been to four jamborees and we've done all we can do to get ready, we just need to play games and see where we're at and work to improve," he said.

What can NOC fans expect?

"We'll be a solid defensive team," he said.  "We'll get after people as best we can, offensively, we run some stuff you see in the NBA.  We'll take a lot of 3-pointers due to our lack of size.  I think we'll be a fun team to watch."

NOC has an extremely tough early schedule against a number of ranked opponents plus playing four straight days next week, two days at the Cowley Classic and two at the UCO Classic in Edmond.

"It's as challenging a schedule as anyone is playing," Nee said.
