Western raced out to a big lead and held off the NOC Tonkawa Mavs 92-80 Thursday night in the OCAC Conference opener.
The Pioneers outscored the Mavs 28-8 in the game's first 10 minutes and the Mavs never recovered.
The Mavs were led by Montrez Ward with 19 while Jason Hunt added 14, Mohamed Kante 13, and Javontae Campbell 11.
NOC trailed the Pioneers 39-22 at half and made a number of second half runs but were never able to cut the lead below double figures.
The Mavs (3-7) host Dallas Mountain View Saturday at 2 p.m.
