Garfield County Sheriff's Office Congratulations Deputy Nichols and K9 TP, and Deputy Prince and K9 Niko | Garfield County Sheriff's Office
Our office would like to congratulate Deputy Nichols and K9 TP, and Deputy Prince and K9 Niko upon being recognized and receiving Quarterly Awards from the National Police Canine Association!
On September 22nd, 2022, Deputy Nichols intercepted a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. Deputy Nichols was able to successfully deploy spike strips to the fleeing stolen vehicle. Four occupants eventually fled on foot from the vehicle, and K9 TP was able to apprehend the first two suspects. A drone was later deployed, and Deputy Nichols and K9 TP were able to assist in the apprehension of the remaining two suspects.
On September 9th, 2022, Deputy Prince responded to assist in the pursuit of a motorcycle. After ending the pursuit, deputies observed signs of the passenger being under the influence of narcotics. Deputy Prince deployed K9 Niko on the motorcycle, however K9 Niko went to the grass and alerted even though he had not been commanded to search that area. A mesh bag containing several items of paraphernalia and dispensary containers was found, as well as methamphetamine. These items had been thrown from the subject prior to stopping.
We are so proud of their accomplishments and dedication to serving our community!
